Sample questions from the Road Signs test
Three real questions, written the way the test writes them. Open the answer on each one to see why the right option is right and why the others are not. Start the test above for the rest.
Question 1
What must you do when you reach this sign?
- ACome to a complete stop.
- BStop sign ahead.
- CCome to a rolling stop.
- DStop sign 150 metres ahead.
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: A. Come to a complete stop.
A stop sign requires a complete stop with the wheels no longer turning, at the stop line or crosswalk, or at the edge of the intersection if neither is marked. Move off only once you can see the way is clear. Rolling through is not a legal stop.
Question 2
What does this fluorescent yellow-green sign indicate?
- APlayground zone. Proceed with caution.
- BSchool zone.
- CProceed with caution when you see two or more people together.
- DSenior zone.
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: B. School zone.
The fluorescent yellow green background marks a school zone. Slow down, watch for children stepping out from between parked cars, and expect crossing guards. Fines are increased in school zones and community safety zones.
Question 3
What does this sign warn you to watch for?
- AHunting is permitted along this stretch of road.
- BLivestock may be herded across the road here.
- CDeer often cross here, so watch for animals on and beside the road.
- DA deer farm or wildlife park entrance is ahead.
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: C. Deer often cross here, so watch for animals on and beside the road.
The leaping deer marks a stretch of road where deer cross regularly. Slow down and scan both shoulders, and remember that where one animal crosses, others usually follow. If one steps out, brake in a straight line rather than swerving into oncoming traffic.
